Jakarta, September 10, 2025 — PT Polytama Propindo, a leading polypropylene (PP resin) producer in Indonesia, continues to reaffirm its commitment as a green petrochemical company through various sustainability-driven innovations. With consistent Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) programs, Polytama has demonstrated that the petrochemical industry can progress hand in hand with environmental stewardship while also enhancing community welfare.
Thanks to its steadfast ESG implementation, Polytama once again received public recognition, earning the “Excellent” predicate at the 2025 SWA Green & Sustainable Companies Awards for Best Innovation in ESG Implementation, as part of the Indonesia’s Best Public Company Best Wealth Creator 2025 and Corporate Secretary Champion 2025 events held on Wednesday (9/10). This award serves as tangible proof of Polytama’s efforts in applying green business principles comprehensively.
Joko Pranoto, President Director of PT Polytama Propindo, highlighted that one of Polytama’s key green commitments is the application of the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) across all operations. The company has installed solar panels to reduce energy consumption, utilized rotary engines to cut emissions, and converted hazardous waste into electricity through fine polymer recycling technology. Additionally, water in the plant’s utility system is recycled to minimize the use of new resources.
Beyond production, Polytama manages a 12.84-hectare conservation area, including a 9.01-hectare plant site and a 3.83-hectare Biodiversity Park (Taman Kehati). This conservation effort contributes to generating 6,594.5 tons of carbon credits annually.
“Polytama has implemented a comprehensive Environmental Management System, covering energy, emissions, water, and waste management, while also fostering harmonious relations with the community,” said Joko Pranoto.
Polytama’s green performance has also been recognized by the government. For the past five consecutive years, the company has consistently received the prestigious PROPER Gold Award from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry—an honor reserved only for companies with the best environmental practices.
To strengthen transparency, Polytama calculates its carbon footprint across three scopes: direct emissions (Scope 1), electricity consumption and supporting activities (Scope 2), and employee transport, business travel, and waste (Scope 3). The total recorded CO2eq emissions reached 107,463 tons, comprising 18,165 tons in Scopes 1 and 3, and 89,297 tons in Scope 2. All calculations have been verified by the Ministry of Industry with an “Unqualified Opinion.”
Polytama’s sustainability innovation also adopts a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach using the Cradle to Grave method, assessing environmental impact from upstream to downstream processes. Through LCA, Polytama focuses on reducing global warming potential, water footprint, land use change, and cumulative energy demand.
Beyond environmental focus, Polytama also places social inclusion and community empowerment as key pillars of its business. The company currently runs five social inclusion programs, targeting vulnerable groups, marginalized communities, and local populations in Indramayu:
- Bang Pilo — empowering 31 micro-enterprises of Lombang pindang fish processors.
- Dahayu — supporting eight traditional MSMEs in Juntinyuat District to remain competitive amid shifting market dynamics.
- Ekoriparian Tjimanoek — engaging 54 MSMEs along the Tjimanoek Lama River in biodigester utilization for sustainable and eco-friendly operations.
- Setara — empowering people with disabilities by utilizing plastic as a substitute material for assistive devices.
- Sehati — an environmental education program reaching 4,320 students across 12 schools in Lombang Village, instilling awareness of responsible plastic use from an early age.
Polytama also leads flagship programs such as #PlastikBaik, an educational campaign guiding MSMEs in proper plastic usage. Research shows that while 87.5% of Indramayu MSMEs already use plastic, 12.5% still lack knowledge of appropriate packaging. This program helps businesses enhance product quality and competitiveness.
Another initiative is the Green Distribution System (SI DIA), supporting local MSMEs through food-grade packaging innovations and eco-friendly distribution via electric vehicles. This program increased revenues by IDR 192 billion per year and saved 10,950 liters of fuel annually, equivalent to IDR 131.4 million.
The WISE-UP (Waste Initiative for Sustainable Environment and Urban Progress) program addresses Indramayu’s waste management challenges by combining education, 3R innovation, renewable energy, and digital applications. Using biodigesters, organic waste is converted into renewable energy, saving IDR 54.4 million in LPG annually, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 573.25 tons of CO2eq per year, and successfully managing 18.9 tons of waste.
WISE-UP directly benefits 4,320 students and 54 MSMEs, while SI DIA supports six MSMEs and 194 underprivileged households. Notably, surveys reported a Community Satisfaction Index of 3.88 out of 4.0 (“Excellent”) for Polytama’s programs.
“Through various social initiatives and sustainability innovations, Polytama has proven that the petrochemical industry can actively contribute to building more self-reliant, inclusive, and environmentally conscious communities,” Joko emphasized.
With an expanding green footprint and recognition through prestigious national awards, Polytama remains committed to transforming into a petrochemical company that is not only strong in business, but also a leading green company in Indonesia.
