A Major Milestone in Polytama’s Expansion Project
Indramayu, September 18, 2024 – PT Polytama Propindo (Polytama) held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the EPCC Jetty and Propylene Storage Tank, following the contract signing with PT Adhi Karya (Persero) Tbk. This groundbreaking marks a significant milestone in Polytama’s expansion project known as the Polypropylene Plant Balongan (PPB). The PPB project is a strategic step and a tangible contribution by Polytama to Indonesia’s petrochemical industry, aiming to bolster the national economy by reducing imports. PPB targets an additional production capacity of up to 300,000 MTA, doubling Polytama’s total capacity to 600,000 MTA.
The ceremony took place at the PPB project site, adjacent to Polytama’s existing plant site. The event signifies the start of construction for the EPCC Jetty & Propylene Storage Tank, which will support Polytama’s production needs for both its current operational plant and the second plant, which is currently under construction.
The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony was marked by the laying of the foundation stone by Polytama’s President Director, Mr. Joko Pranoto, Polytama’s President Commissioner, Mr. Riko Amir, and representatives from Polytama’s shareholders, including the President Director of PT Tuban Petrochemical Industries (TubanPetro), Mr. Sukriyanto, TubanPetro Commissioner, Mr. Achmad Fathoni, President Director of PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI), Mr. Taufik Aditiyawarman, President Director of PT Adhi Karya, Mr. Entus Asnawi Mukhson, and the Regent of Indramayu, Mrs. Nina Agustina.

The Jetty facility being constructed will function as a special terminal to support the raw material needs for Polytama’s second plant, as well as its currently operating plant. If additional supplies beyond what is provided by Refinery Unit VI Balongan are needed, these raw materials will be transported via the new jetty. In the future, PT Pertamina (Persero), through PT KPI, will be able to supply propylene not only from the Pertamina Refinery in Balongan but also from the Cilacap and Balikpapan refineries, which are set to begin operations soon.
The realization of the PPB project is a clear manifestation of Polytama’s commitment to fulfilling the mandate from TubanPetro and PT KPI as shareholders, in line with the Indonesian government’s directive to strengthen downstream integration in the petrochemical sector. This is crucial, as the domestic demand for polypropylene is still largely dependent on imports.
